PALATE PLEASERS

May 1, 2009

Light rain falling outside 15 Degrees C Wine Shop and Bar in Templeton on Friday made the interior feel cozy, especially with the soft lights reflecting off the wine glasses that were lined on the long table.  From the first glass of Champagne to the last spoonful of Crème Brulee, owners Allison Dominguez and Ali Rush Carscaden again display good taste, warm hospitality and a fine business sense.

The special dinner, that coincided with Hospice du Rhone, featured Guigal Wines and a menu that was created by Chef de Cuisine Jeffrey C. Scott to show a  “progression of seasonal flavors and textures”.

Patrick Will, of Ex Cellars Wine Agencies - importers of the acclaimed label, shared both the library wines and supplied context and history. I promised myself I wouldn’t write endless reviews and recommendations, but - we loved the Philipponnat Reserve Rose Champagne, Guigal Chateau D’Ampuis 1997,1999 and Cote Rotie “Hommage” 2005.

Chef Scott more than delivered on the well thought out menu. I would like to have another bite or two (or three) of Chef Jeff’s foie gras-blueberry stuffing, celery root gratin and sweet butter poached Maine lobster.  It was all seriously good.

Best of all, it was just a terrific evening. People were laughing and happy - content with the wine and food and the quality of the experience.
