Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro

Appalachian Bistro understands that great food begins with fresh, quality ingredients, emphasizing the importance of the love and training that goes into making that food top-of-the-line. Taking bold risks with flavors from around the world as well as delightful wine pairings, Appalachian Bistro’s staff understands the importance of a unique, local, comforting flair. They take the rustic farm-to-table approach and give it a delectable twist.

“At Dancing Bear Lodge and Appalachian Bistro, we want to deliver ‘Smoky Mountain Memories worth repeating.’ We, along with our sister properties the Apple Valley Country Stores and Café, want to be the one-stop resort destination where guests can enjoy a cozy bed, eat, take part in activities and shop retail,” said Assistant Manager Nicholas Cook.

“Our world-renowned chef, Shelley Cooper, delivers on this experience each and every night with our farm-to-table menu that changes often since we only source the freshest products for each dish. The fact that we are Townsend’s only full-service bar, with an extensive comprehensive wine list and signature cocktails, also plays a part in each and every guest experience.”

The Barn at Blackberry Farm

The Barn is Blackberry Farm’s fine-dining experience. Housed in a turn-of-the-century bank-style barn located in the center of the farmstead, the James Beard Award-winning restaurant offers multi-course menus of foothills cuisine which focus on Appalachian ingredients from around the region, as well as farm products harvested just a few feet from the front door. Alongside the antique-style linens, custom chairs and sterling silver is a style of cuisine that is more formed and delicate; it expresses the essence of food from the farm and the South, though not necessarily “Southern food.” Complementing the cuisine is the James Beard and Wine Spectator Award-winning wine program with more than 9,000 different selections housed in the Barn Wine Cellar.

Foothills Milling Company / Bakery

Although they are housed at two separate locations, Foothills Milling Company Restaurant and Bakery are must-eats while in Blount County. Both have incredible reputations for high-end food and cozy atmospheres that remind East Tennesseans of childhood memories in the family kitchen. After working in restaurants and bakeries, Whitney and Bart Vaughan opened their own restaurant.

“We partnered this foundation with European-style hearth breads and Bart's house-made meats, sausages and cheeses. Inventive twists of traditional sandwiches using bread, meat and cheeses made in-house make Foothills Bakery unique to the Knoxville area,” said Whitney Vaughan.

Foothills Bakerywas born from Whitney Vaughan’s love of scratch baking, fostered from time spent in the kitchen with her mother and grandmother. She now focuses on baking not only restaurant favorites, but also family heirloom recipes in the Bakery.

Both locations typically open around 9 a.m., but closing times vary, so be sure to call. They are closed on Sundays.  Foothills Bakery is a must-try for a unique sandwich and pastry at an affordable budget for all. If you’re heading to the restaurant, reservations are strongly recommended.
